Biography
Dr. Hadi Qazwini is a scholar, educator, and community leader. He currently serves as a Chaplain at The Claremont Colleges, providing religious and spiritual guidance and support to a community of 8,500 students and 3,200 faculty and staff. For the past 20 years, he has educated diverse audiences across the United States and other parts of the world on topics related to Islam and Muslims in a variety of settings, including academic conferences, college and university campuses, places of worship, and media outlets.
Dr. Qazwini completed advanced traditional Islamic studies training at the Seminary of Qum under the guidance of prominent scholars. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California Irvine, a M.A. in Theology, Islamic Studies and Leadership from Claremont School of Theology and Bayan Islamic Graduate School, and a Ph.D. in Religion with a concentration on Global Islam from the University of Southern California.
Dr. Qazwini's areas of scholarly interest and research are in Islamic intellectual history, with a focus on theology, law, and Imami Shiʿism. His academic publications have appeared in leading academic venues, such as Islamic Studies, The Encyclopaedia of Islam Three, Shii Studies Review, and Edinburgh University Press.
Dr. Qazwini has taught courses on Islam and other religious traditions at several academic and traditional institutions of learning, including the University of Southern California, Whittier College, Bayan Islamic Graduate School/Chicago Theological Seminary, Ahlulbayt Islamic Seminary of California, and others.
Dr. Qazwini provides various services to community members, including individualized teaching, officiating marriages, offering relationship and youth counseling, and leading burial services.
Dr. Qazwini serves several non-profit organizations in the areas of higher education and international development and relief. He has traveled extensively across the globe and currently resides in Southern California with his family.
